Our client is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that has a number of projects in various stages of the drug discovery pipeline, including preclinical candidates that are continuously advancing through in-vitro and in-vivo experiments. Data collected from those experiments is loaded into a database, and delivered through Excel, D360 or Spotfire interface. Data analysis of continuously updated datasets presented a significant challenge, as static data snapshots were difficult to maintain, and took significant amount of time to prepare, resulting in recurring copy/paste mistakes and calculation errors. Client requested our help in streamlining data delivery and analysis process using an advanced Spotfire dashboard that had a bidirectional communication with live data in the database and enabled project teams instant access to the current data and easy-to-use analytical workflow without manual data manipulation steps.

Delivery

Arrayo engineered a Spotfire dashboard with multi-page data analysis workflow, starting with real-time data query to obtain the up-to-date dataset for a given drug candidate. Interactive summary of the data on second page enabled scientists to have a full overview of experimental data, as well as predicted values for compound profiling.

We leveraged deep expertise in Spotfire technology, through interactive controls that use IronPython scripting, expressions and dynamic filtering. HTML-based text area panels provided smooth user experience, with live data connectivity throughout the dashboard. Native data fitting functionality was applied, simplifying design and eliminating need for additional custom R or Python scripting. Additionally, data tagging feature of Spotfire was leveraged for smooth data entry capabilities inside the dashboard experience.

The dashboard transformed user experience from static data and laborious manual analysis workflow to a smooth, integrated Spotfire dashboard workflow. It significantly reduced time for preparing presentation-ready results that are used in decision making, while closing the gap in consistency and data quality.

Technical implementation was originally dependent on another analysis system, D360, and it generated a brittle dependency that was unreliable and difficult to set up. Streamlining the data access and matching all of analytics requirements within Spotfire resulted in a solid, reliable solution delivered to the end users with rapid iterative schedule.
