Arrayo is seeking an Automation Engineer for a position based in our Cambridge, MA location. The individual in this role will be responsible for automating and improving manual processes and ensure instruments are functioning to manufacturer’s specifications.

This position is involved in all aspects of assay automation development and instrument integration. From concept to requirements definition, method development, optimization, troubleshooting and validation, the automation engineer identifies problem areas and develops solutions to reduce Turn-Around-Time (TAT) and increase sample processing capacity.

The person will leverage advanced knowledge and skills of automation to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams on a variety of projects to explore, develop, optimize, test, and implement robust, scalable solutions for lab processing workflows. Additionally, this position partners with outside vendors to develop integrated robotic solutions and ensures all automated solutions fully address business and user requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage conceptualization, detailed definition, and development of protocols involving Hamilton Liquid Handlers.
  • Implement laboratory instrument software and tools to drive high-throughput processes.
  • Optimize and validate protocols to support scale-up.
  • Serve as an expert resource to communicate and advise on strategic and tactical issues in automation and engineering.
  • Explore, test, and  bring in technology capabilities as appropriate.

Requirements:

  • Experience with operating and programming automated liquid handling robotics platforms and complex laboratory systems.
  • Experience with robotic liquid handlers from Hamilton, TECAN, Agilent Technologies, or Beckman Coulter.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, purification, and quantitation, bioanalyzer, DNA/RNA quantitation, qPCR, or Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with internal and external colleagues and customers from diverse scientific, engineering, operational, and regulatory disciplines.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols in a workshop, factory, or laboratory setting.
  • Ability to document and report troubleshooting procedures and resolutions.
  • Ability to work individually as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented and well organized.
  • Knowledgeable of industry standards and best practices, with a problem-solving mindset.
  • Skilled at programing lab automation systems and tools such as Hamilton Liquid Handlers.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Bioengineering, Biotechnology or the life sciences and 7 years of related experience with high-throughput laboratory instrumentation; OR,
  • Master’s Degree in fields specified above and 5 years of relevant experience; OR
  • PhD in a relevant field.
